Odoo for trading and import/export companies

Buy and sell in several currencies, add freight and customs to the real cost of goods, keep shipping documents with each order, and run several companies in one database.

When the real margin is a guess

You buy in dollars or euros and sell in pounds, riyals or dirhams. Freight, customs and insurance arrive later as separate bills, so nobody can say what a shipment really cost or what each line earned.

Shipping documents sit in email threads. Each company in the group keeps its own books, and sales between them are entered twice.

Odoo handles currencies, landed costs, purchasing and several companies in one system, so the cost of a product includes everything it took to get it to your warehouse.

How Odoo handles it

These features come with Odoo. We configure them around your suppliers, shipments and companies, as we did for Overseas Shipping, one of our published Odoo references.

  • Several currencies

Quotations, purchase orders, invoices and bills in any currency, with exchange rates by date and the exchange difference posted when payment arrives.

  • Landed costs

Freight, customs duties, insurance and clearance fees added to the cost of the goods received, split by quantity, weight, volume or value.

  • Purchase and receipts

Each purchase order is tied to its receipts and vendor bills, with partial shipments and backorders tracked.

  • Shipping documents

Bills of lading, packing lists and customs papers attached to the purchase order or receipt they belong to, so they are found from the order.

  • Incoterms

Incoterms recorded on orders and invoices, so everyone can see who pays freight and insurance.

  • Several companies

Several companies in one database, each with its own books, currency and taxes. With Odoo Enterprise, a sale from one company can create the matching purchase in the other.

  • Lots per shipment

Lot numbers per receipt, so you can trace which shipment a sold item came from.

The Odoo apps that matter for a trading company

Receipts, landed costs, lots and stock by warehouse.

  • Sales

Quotations, pro-forma invoices and sales orders in the customer’s currency.

Questions from trading companies

Can Odoo work in several currencies?

Yes. Each customer, supplier, order and invoice can have its own currency, and Odoo posts the exchange difference when the payment is reconciled.

How does Odoo calculate landed cost?

You record the freight, customs or insurance bill as a landed cost against the receipt, choose how to split it, and Odoo adds it to the stock value of those products.

Can we run several companies in one Odoo?

Yes. Each company keeps its own chart of accounts, taxes and currency, and users who work for more than one company can switch between them.

Can Odoo print our export documents?

Odoo prints pro-forma invoices from a sales order out of the box. Packing lists or commercial invoices in your own layout can be added as custom reports.

Does Odoo handle tax in Egypt and the Gulf?

Odoo has fiscal localisation packages for Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and many other countries, with a chart of accounts and taxes to start from. We set up the right one for each of your companies and check it with your accountant.
